Talk by Sarah Haggerty from Maine Audubon from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Just like humans, wildlife need to move through the landscape to meet their daily, seasonal, and lifetime biological needs. Mobility for many creatures is critical for finding food, for breeding and producing young, and for seeking protection from changing weather conditions. And human infrastructure, such as roadways, railroad lines, and culverts often make such movements dangerous or even impossible. But there are things we can do to help wildlife cross roads safely. Maine Audubon and many other organizations work with citizen scientists and road professionals to try to identify the most dangerous stretches of road for wildlife, and to develop solutions to reduce the harm of roads on wildlife. From forested bridges built over highways, to salamander tunnels below the road, different wildlife species require different solutions for crossing roads. On September 22nd, at the York Public Library, Voice for Animals will be hosting a talk by Sarah Haggerty from Maine Audubon from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Sarah is a Conservation Biologist who focuses much of her work at Maine Audubon on issues of habitat connectivity and finding solutions to problems of habitat fragmentation.
